Song of the Day: Lomelda - Tell

feb 18

Topic: Lomelda Season

I've been listening to this album all week and this is my favorite song off of it besides M for Me but that song is mad depressing. I associate Lomelda with fall and I usually don't listen to her in any other season but this winter shes been cooking. Honestly I'm split between M for Empathy(2019) and Hannah(2020) for favorite albums by her. In terms of sound Hannah has so much more life but also I love how sad M for Empathy feels. Hannah is gonna be waaay better once it starts getting warmer.

Song of the Day: Hum - Isle of the Cheeta

feb 13

Topic: Hum Hum Hum

Not a long one today but song of the day is from Hum one of my favorite alternative 90s bands. Speaking of at some point I gotta talk about my actual favorite Jawbreaker. 24 Hour Revenge Therapy (1994) is such an amazing album and they have a special place in my heart since I found them in such a weird way.

Anyways I love Hum; mainly for You'd Prefer An Astronaut(1995) which is prob in my top 10 albums of all time and also my CD grails. This song is off their follow up album Downward is Heavenward(1998) and ngl I dont feel as strongly about it. I listened to it a couple of weeks ago and while the lead singer Matt Talbott cooks up on the vocals I didnt find the instrumentals to be as intresting.

I prob just need to give it more time but I still love the album. This song I love the time signature (6/8) and again Matts vocals are so good.

Song of the Day: Frank Ocean - Provider

feb 12

Topic: Late Night Retrospective

Technically I missed yesterday because I'm writing this at 12:28am but this is my website and I can update it however I want.

Today's song of the day is Provider by Frank Ocean. Last weekend I decided to relisten to Blonde since I haven't really been a big Frank fan since high school and holy shit I forgot he's goated. I may double dip and make Frank my song tomorrow because I've just been falling back in love with his discography.

Provider came out in August 2017, about a year after Blonde and this song means a lot to me. I forgot how I found it because I didn't use Spotify during that time (I think YouTube??) I had an Android at the time and I remember using YouTube to mp3 to put all of Blonde on my phone so maybe I did the same with this song. Anyways 2017 was when I started high school and this song was all I would listen to on my morning bus ride to school. I still think about the first time I understood what he meant when he said "Is you a natural blondie like Goku?" and I was like YOOOOO. I thought that everything was so different. From kindergarten to 8th grade I lived a 3-minute drive away from my school and every morning my mom would drive me. I was always jealous of the kids who got to take the bus because it fit the narrative of what a typical school experience was like and I wanted that.

Every single morning for at least the first month this would be all I heard from 6AM to 7AM. I was one of the first stops in the morning and I remember being half asleep watching the sun slowly rise as the bus made its routes to pick everyone up.

It's so interesting to think about how time changes. Back then just the experience of being on a bus was enough to make me feel like my life was changing. Life is about embracing new experiences and always pushing forward to see what else you don't know. High school was a time of some okay and a lot of bad near the end, but at the end of the day I don't really think about what actually happened beside these fleeting memories that continue to get harder and harder to remember. I'm happy that I still have the music I listened to. It helps me to focus on how far I've come instead of what I've experienced.

If you're reading this and life sucks rn just know it's gonna continue to suck prolly for a bit idk ur situation. But if you're able to push through what sucks and are able to self-reflect life will get better and you'll naturally take the steps to live the life you want and deserve to live.

Song of the Day: Maajins - dont try this @ home

feb 11

Topic: First post & Waiting for class

Something I want to establish early on in this blog is that this is not just a page for alternative music. It's going to be a lot of what I talk about but I grew up listening to Carti leaks on SoundCloud and the same love I've developed for alternative music is the same love I was raised to have with underground music.

Anyways there's not much to say on the song it's really good (you should try the embedded music player at the top :D) . Right now I'm waiting for my Internet Distributions class. Something I always loved is being ridiculously early to a class (it's 11AM rn and the class doesn't start till 12:15). Something about the free time when you're waiting for a class to start is so peaceful. My guess is because when I was young my mom was the type of person who we gotta be by the airport at 5AM if departure is at 8.

I'm gonna get back to updating the website as I only started this yesterday. Hopefully, I can get some more features. The main one I want to implement rn is a comment section or something like that as it would be really cool to see your guys' opinions on things. Have a good one! (PS: guess the playlist thing doesn't wanna work on this page but just trust my time will come)
